Lose Weight, Make Weight Loss Goals

One common area that many people agree they would like to change is their weight. With such a large focus on appearance, more and more people are making significant reductions in their food intake and beginning to exercise more. While exercising and diet can make the difference in how you want to change the way you look, realistic weight goals are a huge part of the journey to a healthy lifestyle.

It’s okay to admit that we’ve all been convinced by the weight loss commercials who guarantee a certain amount of weight loss in a short period of time, but we ask ourselves – is that a realistic weight loss goals? Or better yet, is that even healthy?

Changing Your Routine

A change in your routine can be the first safe and healthy step to reaching your ideal weight. One of the biggest areas to look at in your life is your job. If you are at a job where you’re constantly sedentary, that is a big factor on your weight loss journey. If you’re consistently moving at your job, such as working in a restaurant or fast food chain, this may be better in the long run but there are also other factors to look at in each specific scenario. Regardless of your career choice, taking small steps can lead you in the right direction.

  1. If you’re sitting in an office all day long, take the stairs to your cubicle or park at the back of the parking lot. If you’re on time or early to work every day, parking in the back can give you a few minutes to kill as well as get you a little exercise.
  2.  Leave your cubicle to throw trash away instead of using the can under your desk. Going out of your way to get a little bit of exercise in at work is a healthy change for you.
  3. If you’re constantly moving at work, make sure you’re not indulging on the greasy food offered in restaurants. We often don’t realize how much we’re snacking at work until we’ve put on ten pounds and it’s too late.

If your routine does not consist of exercise, implementing small and short exercises into your daily routine can be gradual. Whether you want to lose ten pounds or forty pounds, exercising regularly is going to be beneficial. Regardless of how much weight you’re hoping to lose, it’s important to exercise in a manner that is suitable for you without pushing yourself overboard. If you’re running, move at your own pace. If you’re lifting weights, start small especially if you’re a beginner.

Changing Your Diet

This is an important next step in changing your weight. Cutting out foods that are bad for you and introducing healthy foods into your life can help you achieve a realistic weight loss goals. A healthy diet alone is not enough to drastically reduce your weight, but eating well and regularly exercising is the winning combination. Though it’s easier to prefer foods that are quick to cook or eating out, cooking your own foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner is the best way to ensure a healthy diet.

  1. Eating high fiber foods can help regulate your digestive functions and help improve weight loss.
  2. Cutting out foods that are full of unhealthy fats, like fast food and greasy foods.
  3. Filling snacks such as nuts can be a great way to curb hunger cravings and help you feel fuller without eating as much as you usually would.
  4. Eating meats provides you with protein but eating lean meats like chicken or turkey may be better for losing weight.

Setting Checkpoints

Setting checkpoints to reach your realistic weight loss goal is a great way to achieve what you want without getting there too quickly or unhealthily. Even if our goals seem realistic, such as ten pounds, it’s important to stretch it out over a fair amount of time so that you are not putting your body at risk for unhealthy weight loss. Marking down how much weight you want to lose and what route you are taking to do so can be a great way to maintain your health. While cutting calories can help you lose more pounds per week, it can be dangerous if you’re over a certain weight, so speak with a dietitian before beginning any diet or exercise regimen. For most people, burning more calories than they consume is the best way to lose weight. A realistic weight loss goal is anywhere from one to three pounds per week.

Losing weight is a task that sometimes seems harder than it should be. It can be so easy to put weight on but when we’re ready to take it off, we must work twice as hard to achieve the goals we set. With a healthy diet and exercise routine, you can change your lifestyle and weight in no time.
